PHOTOS: At the Hillside Street Fair

October 5, 2008 | The Hillsider

Saturday’s weather held up nicely and a good number of residents stopped by the 2nd Annual Hillside Street Fair held at Central Avenue near the community pool.

The general consensus was that the event, sponsored by the township’s Urban Enterprise Zone office, was a success — and an improvement over last year’s fair near the Municipal Building.

The fair featured 80 vendors, including a food court in the pool complex.

The Hillsider stopped by for about an hour. While we did see plenty of well-known folks (more photos after the jump), we didn’t see the mayor while we were there. Did anyone else see her?

If anyone would like to share any of their photos, please send them, or a link to them, to tips–at–thehillsider.com

For some unknown reason, former 2nd Ward Councilwoman Deborah Stroud drove her car — with her mother riding shotgun — straight through the street fair on Central Avenue. Other people, however, had to find alternate routes and parking on side streets because the road was closed. The former councilwoman was escorted through the crowd by a visibly annoyed police officer.

Joseph Menza, owner of Menza Realty on Liberty Avenue, and a candidate for mayor, made his rounds.

I actually saw stroud ride down the middle of the street escorted be a cop, and you are right, a very annoyed cop. didn’t we get rid of her? I guess some things never change. If she hit one of those many kids, I guess they would have welcomed another lawsuit. shame on you stroud. shame on the organizers for allowing this. it will not be forgotten!
