Hillside went all down the line

Democrat Frank Lautenberg (right) and Republican Joe Pennacchio, who each topped their official party lines in Union County, were the favorites of Hillside voters in yesterday’s primaries for U.S. Senate.
Lautenberg clearly wasn’t “too old” for Hillside Democrats, crushing South Jersey’s Rob Andrews 719 to 140. Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello got 24.
The senator also carried the county with 68 percent to Andrews’ 28 percent.
On the GOP side, statewide winner Dick Zimmer fared poorly in Hillside, losing to “Jersey Joe” Pennacchio and Murray Sabrin, 45-25-14.
Pennacchio also won the county with 58 percent of the vote, while Zimmer had 32 and anti-war Sabrin had 16.
Rep. Donald Payne ran uncontested in the Democratic primary for his 10th district Congressional seat. The Republicans had no candidate in that race.
