Judge annuls mayor’s appointments, says council must approve

A Superior Court judge ruled yesterday that Hillside’s mayor exceeded his authority in appointing a business administrator, attorney and auditor without the township council’s approval.

The judgment comes nearly a month after the township’s governing body sued Mayor Joseph Menza for illegally installing his executive appointments after he took office July 1. The judge agreed with the lawsuit’s contention that the legislation governing the township’s form of government requires council approval for such personnel selections. MORE

with judge’s like the one who presided over this hearing and several members of the council, this town can never move forward - seems the boss on King Street is just too powerful. Best wishes and luck to Mayor Menza for stepping up to them and constantly moving forward.

Once again Union County has proved itself to be the third world of justice. Here is a perfect example of a politically connected lawyer in a black robe circumventing the will of the people and prolonging an existing problem. In my opinion this judge probably nearing the end of his career, not caring at all about the spirit of the law was only interested in paying back favors for the charmed life he has lived. It is a sad day for Hillside especially in light of the fact that someone such as Rosemary McClave found her case heard in another visenage so as not to show that the fix was in. Yet this case which effects the property taxes of so many innocent Hillside citizens was blatantly brought before this hack Judge Mallone. Although all hope is not lost and I predict appeals will be made, it must also be noted that Hillside’s problems may have to be solved not only at the Mayoral level but the Gubernatorial level as well. Therefore I urge all good citizens of Hillside to once again cross party lines and come out in full force for Chris Christie. Hillside and Union County are too important to write off.

Jack May: The mayor was the DEFENDANT. the council brought the charges. Oh, by the way, the mayor did win a decision in that case also……wonder what that was?

Would someone please go to the Township of Hillside Website and take a look at the section “MAYORS OFFICE”. You will see a picture of Mayor Menza along with a statement claimed to be his.If this is the case than so be it.I have reason to think otherwise.
